Space makes space. It spreads and echos. It holds feelings and textures. Spaces are charged, spaces take matter. Sometimes space takes over me and lingers in frames of time. Containers of ourselves, exhausted by the effort it takes to fill up.

space for holding space is a transdisciplinary work that explores the theme of space, through object and embodiment. The project has found shape through three mediums: performance, object, and bookmaking (book-object to come).

Exploring materiality, I built an inflatable object that becomes my twin when full. The object is dependent on the effort made by me, filling it with air in order to bring it to life. Its playfulness and absurdity makes light of the effort invested in holding and occupying space. My entry into movement is informed by the inflatable, physicalizing gestures that are in relation to the object. I explore how breath can generate movement, as well as the physicality of inflating and deflating. The object becomes my companion as we navigate space together.
